Two more games today. These ones were created before Guerrilla War, so it's more seeing the stepping stones between Ikari Warriors 1 and that game. And, those are some rough stepping stones. At the very least. Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road has better controls. Much better, though you still move in a circle instead of quickly snapping directions. That I dislike. But this time, you can hold the fire button down and continue attacking the same direction. That's a huge plus. There's also different weapons in a submenu, as well as power ups. Though, to be honest, most of those power ups don't seem that good. A "clear screen" isn't that effective, as you're probably dead before you use it. The health potion is nice at least. One thing that absolutely drags this game down, however, is the final boss. His attacks are nearly impossible to dodge, and he kills you in three hits. Three hits that he can dish out in no time. It doesn't help that it wants you to use the sword on him, but if you're close enough to use it he has guaranteed hits against you. The only tactic that seemed to work was staying back and trying to bait his shots but even that really, really doesn't work that well. The entire game is dragged down by that abomination of an end boss, not that the game was a classic anyway.

Next game was Iron Tank, the home version of TNK III. And I hated this one more than Ikari Warriors II. You see, the tank has two weapons. Machine guns on its body, and the main cannon/turret. But because of the limited control of the NES, any time you fire the machine gun, you rotate the turret toward the direction you're facing. Thus removing the advantage of having two weapons, as you can't fire two directs with them as you'll end up moving the turret the way your machine gun is firing. It's not good, at all. It would be better if it either used the control scheme Ikari Warriors II had where if you were firing the turret it kept going the same direction, or simply locked in that direction with the game balanced for it.

Worse still, the game crashed on the final level. HOWEVER, there is a password system, so I can get back to it. It will cost me all of my subweapons to use it though. And that's very unpleasant, I didn't see any cheats to fill those either. I am not happy, but I will at least be able to finish the game. Hopefully. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
