Socom 4 (PS3) Gameplay -No Commentary-
I never got to play Socom 4 online, but MAG was pretty fun. As far as the single player goes, the seventh gen is where tactical shooters became a lot less like tactical shooters, and became, as some might say, watered down for the mainstream. Rainbow Six, GRAW, and Socom all went for the more mainstream appeal over the heavy, slower paced, but still intense tactical shooter gameplay. Socom was always more arcadey in feel over R6, and Ghost Recon. You could stealth it up, or just grab the heavy machine gun, and run and gun like you were in an online match.
Socom 4, from what I have played of it is a casualty of becoming a "modern" shooter with some tactical elements. The Call of Duty affect did affect that entire generation of shooters. I guess you can't blame them for trying to hollywood Socom up for mainstream appeal, because that's where the money to be made was. However, if it wasn't Call of Duty, casual gamers/mainstream gamers didn't care about it. Zipper should have just made a Socom game, instead of CoD with tactical squad elements.
As it is, I don't hate this game. It's solid from what I have played of it. It's not a very good Socom sequel, but is a decent game. I wish I would have played this one online at least, just to try it.
