0Solo clearing large bug nest with the autocannon in the second diff-9 mission on Oshaune with randos. No shield backpack, 0 personal deaths with all side objectives completed. Full team extracted. Plenty of samples collected (tho I am maxed out on samples so that was not my goal)
Autocannon is arguably more powerful than pre-nerf railgun when used correctly.
Is it bad to be a lonewolf in a team?
I think it is okay as long as your team is okay with it, and you are not the reinforcement sink. Splitting up helps completing objectives faster with less aggro/less drag.
Do it when your teammates didn't communicate to you not to. Do it when teammates seem to be eager to complete side objectives, and some teammates are splitting off already. Nevertheless, keep checking the minimap to see if your teammates are stuck on an objective. Go back to help them when it is needed.
