Some Thoughts As We Wrap | Arctico #8
Welcome to our last episode on Arctico! We've been playing the game for a few hours now, enjoyed our time with it, but we're going to shelve this series. The performance hasn't been up there and there are some gameplay aspects that are a bit tedious to replay so often. I think Arctico suffers a lot from some design decisions. The map being fully revealed makes exploration feel a bit less compelling, the auto-drillers feel like they should be an immediate first-find so you can set them up far sooner, and there's a lack of satisfying pay-off feeling when you try to progress in the game. It feels like you need to complete 3 stages or steps to achieve something with no real tangible gains until all of them are completed. Subnautica did this well where every bit and piece towards something opens up more crafting or general possibilities of what you can do. Arctico though doesn't really with a far longer route to take to reach an unsatisfying finished product.
