Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Boss Run - Knuckles' Storyline - Part 2
Since playing as Knuckles does change things up (Quite significantly in some cases), I've decided to record a few of the Sonic game bosses as Knuckles.
Where as Sonic can speed through bosses, Knuckles requires a little more finesse to beat them quickly.
Three things to bare in mind:
a) Knuckles cannot jump as high as Sonic. This is the biggest difference as far as Boss Battles go. This often means he cannot hit a boss at a moment where Sonic can.
b) He lacks Sonic's sub-spin move... meaning he can't bypass boss armour. This also means, he cannot hit a boss at a moment where Sonic can. Many of the moments you see here where you may very well think "Oh, I'm sure you could hit that.." No. You can't. Not with human timing.
See Lava Reef's Su... er. Boss.
c) For obvious reasons, (i.e the glide move), he doesn't get Sonic's Shield moves.
Most of the time, Knuckles can't beat a boss as fast as Sonic, but he'll give it a damn good shot.
The recording of this boss run was filled with problems, from having the emulator crash on me, to one of the recordings having a mouse pointer in the way (that'd be the Mushroom Hill sub-boss) as a result, lives and score will be all over the place.
Boss Notes:
MH1: How did I not notice this before - his flames thin out in certain animation poses! This strategy works for Sonic and Tails too.
MH2: Same strategy as Sonic. Egg-Robo can sometimes create a barrier that you need to glide through, but I killed him way too quickly for that.
FB1: Can't speed this up any quicker.
FB2: Ditto.
FB3: Egg Ro... er... Robotnik now shoots flames regardless on whether your on the ground or not, so after getting in a few good hits at the start, you just have to fight it normally.
SAND1: Damnit Sonic and Knuckles, what's with you and having 4 bosses that have to kill themselves!
SAND2: Poor Egg Golem. I haven't let it leave it's starting position as either Sonic or Knuckles. XP
LR1: The last boss for Knuckles prior to Mecha Sonic, for some reasons I couldn't pull off the three hits per appearance, but that might have something to do with Knuckles' altered jumping mechanics, as I can pull it off fairly regularly with Sonic.
SS1: The spindash seems to be a recurring weakness to the mechanical Sonics. First Silver Sonic and now this.
SS2: A messed up jump meant he actually got to use the Ring Spread attack. Ah well.
Well that's all of the bosses Knuckles can legitimately face in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I'll be making a later video detailing the Debug mode bosses. By hook or by crook, Knuckles CAN fight every boss in this game, even if you have to edit the game to do so. XP
