Welcome back to Sonic Heroes.

Last time we finished the missions of team Chaotix and this time we are starting the fourth and final team: team Dark consisting: Rouge the Bat who after following a lead that Eggman had some secret treasure stored around somewhere she sneaks into his base where she finds a capsule filled with some weird liquid.
When she tries to drain the liquid to open this capsule she accidentally awakens the machine Eggman left in this place: the final robot made in the E-100 series of robots: E-123"Ω".

The capsule opens and before we know there is a lot of gun-fire which forces Rouge and the being released from the capsule to get to safety, the being from the capsule resembles an old fallen friend Shadow the Hedgehog.
"Shadow" then goes after Omega to get him to stop him from shooting at him and Rouge but Omega answers this by telling the two of them that he "Must eradicate all Eggman's robots". This confuses Rouge as this Shadow couldn't be a robot created by Eggman thus she comes between the two to stop them from fighting.

After the dust of the fight settles Rouge tries to understand what is going on with the others this being that Omega was locked up and later forgotten by his creator making the robot angry with the doctor and wanting to prove to Eggman he made a grave mistake by abandoning him. And Shadow has lost his memory of everything that has happened in the past with her Eggman and the heroes. And in an attempt to get the two to make up she suggests that they should form a team to look for Eggman so they can get to the bottom of how Shadow is still alive and why Omega was abandoned the way he was.

Now for the game play side of things Team Dark is considered the hard mode of the game in comparison to team Rose's Easy and team Sonic's Average difficulty this means that team Dark has more and stronger enemies in their stages and sometimes this also means the stages go on a little longer than they would be with Sonic.

But the increased amount of enemies makes A ranking the levels a little easier as well since most of the time enemies are in bigger groups thus granting more bonus points for defeating multiple enemies in a row.

Character differences however is where team Dark is the least unique since Rouge has the thunder shoot like every other flying character, and when on her own she uses the dummy ring bombs like Tails also does.

Shadow just like in his other apearance is pretty much a Sonic clone gameplay wise, as he has the Triangle Jump, the Light Speed Dash, and the Black Tornado which is identical to Sonic's Blue Tornado, But Omega is the most unique of the three when compared to their team Sonic counterpart as for Omegas finishers he uses his arm cannons to their greatest effect: for level 1 they are machine guns, level 2 changes them into flamethrowers and at level 3 he gets rocket launchers.

As for the extra missions for the team: Team Dark needs to defeat 100 of Eggman's robots in every stage.
