Sonic Horror - The New Beginning | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
159A few weeks ago I received a request of a viewer to check out a game called Sonic The New Beginning. This was a horror game made in Dreams that is based on the Sonic.EXE horror theme. And I was not prepared for what a wild journey this game would take me on.
The story revolves around a bad guy named Respiro who turns various beloved game characters in evil versions from themselves. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the dragon are amongst those that have turned evil. Now they travel to different dimensions to strengthen their armies and so they also head towards the Mushroom Kingdom as the Super Mario Brothers get involved. And then there is also a Keyblade wielder who gets thrown into the mix, the bad guy inhabits the body of Woody from Toy Story and all of this packed into one single game. It is absolutely bonkers and also brilliant.
The story is the real highlight of this. There are plenty of cutscenes and they are done very well with great animations, great character models and facial expressions and also the writing made me laugh sometimes.
The gameplay with this is very hit and miss. There are a few moments where you get to play as Sonic and go through a level in the same style as his main games. Those are great. At other times you play as Mario or Luigi and need to collect 8 red coins and power stars in levels that are based on their Nintendo 64 game. Those are also great. But then there are levels where you have to collect 100 or more score tokens and those get quite repetitive and outlast their welcome. Also the boss fights take way too long with some taking over 10 minutes to complete. Now I might not understand them properly as I was doing very, very little damage but I do think those boss fights need to be redone and made shorter.
I do think the developer is incredibly talented with providing an awesome setting, great story and character interactions. Maybe in the future we can also have levels based on the Crash Bandicoot games or Spyro games. The possibilities are endless and I cannot wait to see where this crazy journey will take us next.
