Sonic R | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
82I love me some Sonic The Hedgehog and I still want to archive plenty of games involving the blue hedgehog. In the past I have already done a video on Sonic Forces and today we archive a Sonic title from my youth. I did not have a Sega Saturn, but Sonic R was also released on CD-Rom and I did own that version for the PC.
Sonic R is basically a party racer, but instead of driving vehicles, everyone is actually running since they are so fast. It is kind of a meme that later Sonic racing games all have vehicles involved, but it started out with classic running in Sonic R.
You have five tracks to choose from and around double the amount of characters. Fan favorites like Sonic, Knuckles and Tails are playable as well as some baddies like Eggman and Metal Sonic. The game's controls need a lot of getting used to and the amount of tracks is a bit lackluster, but the tracks themselves are actually really cool since they offer many different routes you can take and even different secrets to collect like tokens and the Chaos Emeralds. In order to do this you will need to collect rings in order to unlock new areas of the track and you can then even enter entirely new areas that were previously blocked off. It feels like a mixture between an adventure game and a racing game. For this video I wanted to focus on just the races, but if people want to see a video where I collect all the tokens and emeralds as well, please let me know and I will make that video in the future.
