Sonic Memoir is an album of songs that I made while thinking about different times in my life, trying to capture some of the sounds and feelings, filtered through both the haze of memory and the limits of my own skills.

Through high school and college, I had a deep interest in the technical aspects of music. For a while, I fixated on Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music, an extensive interactive museum of the family tree of electronic music genres as they stood at the turn of the century.

But the name "Whirlwind Pattern" itself comes from Pac Man. There are many patterns that will guarantee a perfect score, and whirlwind was one of the fastest ways to clear the 9th key level, which is the level that repeats over 200 times through the course of the game.

So this song reflects these interests, and beyond that it reflects my interest in patterns and categorization in general.
