Sonic Memoir is an album of songs that I made while thinking about different times in my life, trying to capture some of the sounds and feelings, filtered through both the haze of memory and the limits of my own skills.

I grew up surrounded by Zimbabwean music, which had been brought to Seattle and popularized through classes and cultural events. My mom played marimba when I was a child, and I learned to play too when I was older. I remember one very powerful concert I went to where everyone in the audience was taught to sing a memorial song. I didn't understand the words, but I understood the feeling behind them. The repetitive, polyphonic melodies stuck with me, and I've been trying to capture that feeling ever since.
