Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis) - Playthrough
1Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released in 1992 after the success of the original Sonic. Though it allegedly had a troubled development; with some dropped concepts intended to be in the game later recycled for Sonic CD and Sonic 3; the game itself was still a commercial success with most people seeing it as the game that really put Sonic on the radar.
Sonic 2 introduced so many mechanics that defined what the series is all about. Including the inclusion of Tails, the Revving Spindash, and the fact that level designs are much more open and encourage speed much more then the original. Some puzzle platforming still exists, but the majority of the game just lets you go hog wild. However, with every great idea, there were a few that didn't quite matchup. The Special Stages in Sonic 2 are easily the most overly punishing, and bullshit hard ones in the series... and the reward is rather average all things considered, since you can't really use Super Sonic much in Sonic 2.
This video is not a Full Playthrough like the original, because I was unsuccessful at getting the 7 Chaos Emeralds, something anyone can do with Save States, but since I always attempt to play these games the way they were intended, even on hardware that allows it, my efforts only landed me 3 of the 7 Chaos Emeralds. Honestly, I'd say that sucks, except you'll see more then enough Super Sonic in Sonic 3 & Knuckles for me to justify just skipping it.
