I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, fan of retro games, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EACH of the video games in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game review parts are just for fun, and are not meant to be definitive, in depth reviews; this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey itself. From Mario games to the Halo series, from arcade games to Commodore 64, PC games to the NES and Sega Genesis, Playstation to the Xbox, let's play those classic retro games that we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[a] is a platform video game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis console. It was released worldwide in November 1992. The game is the second main entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In the game, protagonist Sonic the Hedgehog and his sidekick Miles "Tails" Prower must stop series antagonist Dr. Ivo Robotnik from stealing the Chaos Emeralds to power his space station, the Death Egg.
Development of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 began at the end of 1991, with both Japanese and American staff, from Sonic Team and Sega Technical Institute respectively, contributing to development. As with the original game, the soundtrack was composed by Dreams Come True songwriter Masato Nakamura. Upon release, the game was a critical and commercial success, selling over six million copies, making it the second-best-selling Genesis game behind the original Sonic the Hedgehog. It has since been released on several compilations and downloads for various platforms, which were also generally positively received. A remastered version, developed using the Retro Engine, was released on iOS and Android devices in December 2013. Two direct sequels, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, were released in 1994.
