About the song:
When I made this two years ago I had no prior experience composing original tunes and I doubted I could make anything as good as the Great Turquoise Act 2 remix. Noah gave me the option of remixing basically any of the stages, and so I chose Meta Junglira since its tropical theme could be more rhythm-focused, and that's what I was more familiar with. I then covered the original song to use as a reference for later. As I was doing this I realized the song looped much later than I thought (the VGM made it very clear), and immediately I had the idea of using the looping point as the intro. The version I sent to Noah was basically exactly the one you hear except for some notes that weren't in mixolydian, as I thought it was in minor and just wanted to add some tension. I couldn't even tell there was a key change, but now I know thanks to Noah.

The thing I could handle with most ease was the rhythm, so that's what I changed the most as I started. I wanted the song to have a sort of dynamic movement in terms of volume and number of notes, like, it would get noisy in some parts and then quiet, and there would be focus on some long sustained notes and then on some notes in quick succession. With that in mind I improvised some drum beats, and to have some contrast, the song would start with a lot of space between notes and would end with a short drum solo. The song is swung 'cuz it felt appropriate; moving my body to the beat helps me get a feel of what works and what doesn't, and swing felt really good to dance to. The percussion is meant to feel like there's an actual drummer playing, that's why the hi-hats change volume and the beat doesn't repeat too much. The stereo channels are similar to songs like Mushroom Hill and Marble Garden, but coming up with new melodies for them was hard. The main melody instrument is supposed to feel like the stereo instruments from Marble Garden. The xylophones/marimbas are from Angel Island, because of course.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but I love the intro I managed to make. I wanted it to feel mysterious and tried finding cool chords to do that, and I was sure a tritone at the end of the intro would accomplish that. In the end it was pretty much just trial and error until something clicked. Most of the remix was done that way honestly. My first versions had too much motion, the notes were different all the time and you couldn't follow what was happening, so I favored repetition and that's how it turned into that simple back and forth. The last section is where the dynamic balance is more evident, and it sounds just like how I intended it.
