Soulstice - Forced DirectX 12 CPU Test
By default, Soulstice only supports DirectX 11, and it has some serious CPU performance issues, causing a very jerky framerate and drops to below 60 during heavy scenes. However, you can force the game to run on DirectX 12 by adding "-d3d12" to the game's launch options (through Steam or through a shortcut to the game's executable).
This can potentially result in massive improvements to performance, especially for weaker CPUs. With DX12, the Ryzen 2600 can now consistently reach well above 60 FPS.
There is one downside however, and that is shader compilation. The game does not pre-compile shaders before playing, so whenever you see a visual effect for the first time, there will be a short stutter for a moment. However, this only happens once unless you manually clear the shader cache or update your drivers.
If you're wondering why I'm benchmarking at 1080p with DLSS on Ultra Performance mode, it's to reduce the GPU load to a low enough level that the GPU is not the limiting factor for FPS. In other words, this test shows how many FPS you can achieve when paired with a strong enough GPU. Generally, I test how both the CPU and the GPU perform in tandem, but this video is strictly a CPU test.
