Space Engineers 2023 Enterprise D & USS Sutherland VS Romulan Warbird & Valdore Class Warbird
A lot can happen in 30 minutes... in this instance we open in a 2 on 1 assault against the TNG era Romulan Warbird. This was ideal for us, as it took both ships a considerable amount of time to come close to disabling it. Enterprise Leaves Sutherland to pursue a sensor echo of the Valdore Class and gets quite a bit of damage in the exchanges that follow.
Collision: Enterprise D tries to take more than the weapons can get accidentally as we collide in the first pass. Weapons aren't being quite as effective as I'd like. This is partly because of the unmodified photon torpedo banks (a minor oversight) which are more intended for classic TOS era ships. The ramming is costly, but eventually effective enough to rejoin Sutherland who in the interim managed to get stuck on an asteroid because: "Why would it not?"
Conclusion, the neutral zone was indeed practical, as it prevented exchanges very much like these, which resulted in damage that was sometimes more like petty vandalism, than warfare.
The ships of this era were utterly potent, as long as their shields were up. Once they were not, nothing was ever probably as durable as anyone hoped. The best designs however, could last through many very badly executed encounters quite easily, while the lousy ones were done after some light skirmishes. This would be the case ending use of the Miranda Class in constant action. It was also very near the end of the Excelsior 2 era.
The size of these ships wasn't nearly as important as the layout evolution both; externally, and internally, where the placements of key systems had to be spread out carefully. Oftentimes our design's redundancies are set in other sections so there will be no critical failures without plenty of warning.
That is probably obvious by now.
