Space Engineers: Martian Recovery-Escape Rover
Maybe I should have named it Martian Escape Recovery Rover (or M-ERR). The idea is that this is a vehicle that would be shipped to Mars and used to at least return the Mars astronauts to orbit for recovery. This took it a step further to try a direct return trajectory for Earth.
After spending the bulk of Episode 33 in Kerbal Space Engineers slow-boating it the 2600+ km from Mahrs to Crash Central, I suffered a catastrophic loss of vehicle at around 3,033 degrees of heat at an altitude of 2,724 meters.
That said, the debris landed at a point 6.5km away from the KSE Space Center. For me, whether this would be in Kerbal Space Program OR in Space Engineers, this is effectively a hole in one. Were I to attempt this again, I'd probably cut off the lift thrust and aim to leave gravity doing around 200 m/s versus 470 m/s, scrap the inner vanilla hydrogen thrusters to save weight (and sub an extra 4 med. cargo containers of ice), and shoot for a potentially higher trajectory for a steeper drop through the atmo. (And maybe additional power in the ceiling of the flight area?)
