Space Engineers: Shuttle Test Landing #1
For those curious, yes, I did test landing from orbit. It was a less than stellar landing though -- Plane Parts wheels embed themselves in the voxels seemingly random. This was with the "original" shuttle blueprint, so the SSMEs are still tilted at 15 degrees. Like the other tests, I wasn't on mic, so no commentary - keep an eye on the in-game chat entry box on the bottom left for that.
Legitimately, the shuttle needs a *long* runway to land. The reality is that it can land rather short -- IF you trust the wheels to not merge in the voxels. Flaring at literally the last second would seem to be the ideal way to land, to take the landing on the back wheels rather than leveling out - the glide profile just does not seem to support flying at anything less than 15 degrees nose down without shedding speed rapidly. :)
(Disclaimer: This is all with vanilla speeds, not the modded speed in the normal Saturday stream, so overheat is far pickier.)
