Spawn chunk experiments. | Minecraft Java 1.16.4
Warning: turns out it's not as simple as I thought it was. Spawn chunks do process redstone when there are no players in the overworld. What stops processing are tile entities. As far as I can tell this is a unique state that can only happen in the spawn chunks - processing redstone, but not processing hoppers, droppers, dispensers (and probably pistons or blocks moved by pistons). Thanks to @vktec down in the comments for setting me straight.
Just a quick video to dispel some confusion I've heard about how spawn chunks work. Nothing groundbreaking, just confirming what is already known.
These experiments were done in Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.4 and since this behavior has been changing between versions if you're here from the future: Hi, I'll try to let you know in the description if this has changed. Or even better, you've seen how simple the experiments were to perform, do them yourself and let me know.
