Special Weapons | NeoDoom: Doom Shopping | No Failure Run
Another visit to an old mod that I haven't played in a while, this time with a slight bit more changes in the mix, for better and worse. I also tried turning on the movetilt cvar for this run for variety, even though I hated the thing, sorry if anyone feels the same way and can't watch the video as a result.
For the longest time I've been playing a modified Special Weapons mod with the monsters ripped out, mainly so I can play with humanoid exclusive enemy sets like Doomless, but it had hit me not too long ago that I really could've cobbled up a humans-only monster set with existing Special Weapons' actors and the hostiles sprites from Twilight Warrior. And so that's what I did. Took me a while to sort it, but I've managed to have a fitting enemy set for this mod that finally allows me to play a more accurate Rainbow Six-like experience (though I really should give the regular demon guys a shot for later, I didn't write all that playlist description only for this mod's entire runs to only have me fight humans).
Interestingly, just like HDest, the result of this experiment has caused some effects to the difficulty. Boss battles are pretty much trivial since they're all replaced with humans, for example. Sure, I have them set up so that they got the most powerful weapons like shotguns and machineguns, but they also pretty much die in a couple of hits. Same thing with enemies that are commonly used as snipers (revenants and arachnotrons), replaced them with regular guys with snipers instead, deadly but brittle. It's certainly makes for an interesting experience trying to beat another one of NeoDoom's urban maps with it. Pretty much everyone can drop me from 200/125 to 0 in seconds, but so can I.
You might also notice textures that seem out of place in this run. NeoDoom sadly has no restraints on the kind of stuff it puts in its maps, and I've no intention of having to deal with the trickiness of letting it through the looking glass.
