With Sheldon helping you and Marie out at this point, you will be receiving some Sheldon Requests from that shellfish from time to time. A stage with a Sheldon Request locks you down into only use a single weapon that Sheldon wants to do some research on. He usually gives you a new weapon alongside this, but these request can also happen with weapons you already have. This game be annoying at first, but the weapon Sheldon locks you with tends to be one that's essential to completing the stage, and when you're done, you can use any of your current weapons on reruns.

For Stage 4, Sheldon gives, and locks you down with, the Hero Roller. You'll definitely need it for this stage, as there is a lot of Rolonium to use it on in order to quickly make ink paths and get rid of Octarians in your way. Be careful, though, as the Octarians can also use that Rolonium against you through their Octohurler troops.

Once again, after completing a stage with a Sheldon Request, you can use any other weapon you want in it in reruns besides the one Sheldon made you use. Completing a stage also insures that you keep any new weapons that he gives you and lets you switch between them on the fly while in Octo Canyon.

In order to use the Hero weapons in multiplayer, you have to use each of them in every single player stage!
