Splatoon 2: Lost at the last in Rainmaker [12(2)-4, Heavy Splatling Remix]
After that all-Hydra Splatling battle, with tahm racing off as the rest of us suckers charging up for five minutes, I worked out how better to speed off the base with a splatling, which I put to use here. That helps me support bursting the Rainmaker free quickly, and then move around to apply some pressure to the Splatterscope. They apply a bit right back, but thankfully their shot misses, and I have Thermal Ink on them. It's a bit of a shame that Thermal Ink doesn't work when the squid is swimming, but you can't have everything. I get the splat anyway, thanks to a touch of luck.
My squidmates have moved the Rainmaker a little, which is good, and I push up to support from the back. A B-bomb should help, and two being thrown to overlap a little, with some uncanny coordination, should help quite a bit. It's a shame the Rainmaker was reset, and we struggle to carry it much farther than previously, with a whole lot of ink being thrown around the pinch-point. I move around the side to try to help from an angle, and the Rainmaker itself gives up that route and comes across too, but is stopped before they get anywhere.
I wonder if a poke around the previous corner would catch some inklings off-guard, but it really doesn't. I probably should have moved back when I realised, but I'm really not that good at this. The yellow team recover the Rainmaker and push to the corner we struggled to get around, and struggle to get around it themselves. I activate a B-bomb mostly in defence, as Tenta Missiles fly in, but also to lob a ball of ink at the opposition. My squidmates have dealt with them by the time I release it, but it gives them some cover, which is something.
We get the Rainmaker back, and I hold my position to check for possible flanks as it it moved forwards. Our squidmate gets to the vertical block, increasing our lead nicely, but the Rainmaker again gets a bit stuck, with the yellow team in an aggressive position that is difficult to knock them from. It's almost good that the yellow team grab the Rainmaker, just to get out of the stalemate, but circumstances don't change too much. Still, we have the lead, so it's not too much of a problem for us, and keeping things where they are is fine. I'm quite impressed that I launch my B-bomb whilst a yellow B-bomb hits me, whereupon I land in the Rainmaker's blast. It's a toss-up to guess which one actually splatted me for a second.
The Rainmaker is left in an awkward position for us, and it's almost worth letting the yellow team grab it. Mind you, what's better is not to let them get it and have the Rainmaker reset back to the centre of the Track. That'll do. Focussing on the Rainmaker nearly gets me picked off by the Splatterscope, who is then targeted by a rather pointed B-bomb, and we're back on the attack. We hit the troublesome corner, and I use my Object Shredder boots to take down the Splash Wall and sneak in to yellow territory. I stop the Splatterscope mid-Suction Bomb Rush, but don't quite get my aim straight enough to splat the Splattershot Pro. Our lead isn't extended.
With just over ten seconds to go, the yellow team have the Rainmaker and a long way to go. I cover the short-cut, just in case they try to sneak across here, and move back to the cover the other direction when it's clear the Rainmaker is coming that way. Given how difficult that corner has been to pass, I'm confident that our defence will hold. I don't do anything rash, and just sit back and ink, and am happy when my B-bomb charges. This ought to end the battle, but I anticipate the movement poorly, and land the B-bomb too close to me. The Rainmaker jinks back, the Flingza Roller has already rolled under me, and before we know it we are all splatted, leaving the yellow team a simple stroll to victory.
