Splatoon 2 Online Gameplay #95: 1st Anniversary Splatfest Part 1/2 (15 Turf Wars)
I can't believe it's been over a year since Splatoon 2 was released, already! AND this is compounded on top of the 3 years since the first Splatoon's release! I'm proud of this Nintendo franchise growing so fast. They seem to have a problem making modern IPs in this day and age that are able to have a lasting impression, but they really struck gold with Splatoon!
This first year anniversary for Splatoon 2 is also the 1st year anniversary for Off the Hook's newscast. For this Splatfest, as a part of a celebration of the Octo Expansion campaign, the game pits Squids/Inklings against Octopuses/Octolings!
(Speaking of that, more of my Octo Expansion videos are still coming)
Pearl, being an Inkling, herself, supports the Squids, while Marina, being an Octoling, supports the Octopuses, or Octopi. Whatever you want to call them in a group. This time, I decided to side with Marina.
This Splatfest has a few special quirks:
- First, whichever side you choose determines what species you become in a Splatfest Turf War, regardless of what you were beforehand. This means any Inkling on Team Octopus will be shown as an Octoling during every match within this Splatfest, even if they haven't beaten Octo Expansion and unlocked the ability to play as an Octoling at almost any other point in the game except for Hero Mode.
- Second, this Splatfest's Shifty Station is another special one. Each team has their own gate walls that can be brought down by splatting the enemy team's tentacle to bits. Each team has 3 tentacles in different spots, and their health can't be restored by splatting them with their own ink. Removing the gates just makes it easier for the opposing team to mark more of their territory by making the stage more open and wide, but you and likewise do the same.
- Lastly, not only do all non-Shifty stages take place at night, like usual, there will also be a lot of fireworks to make the Splatfest even more festive than usual to celebrate this sequel's release and Off the Hook's service.
So, what side were you on in this Splatfest? Team Woomy, or Team Veemo?
