Splatoon 2: Short-range blasting in Tigerfest VI [10(2)-3, Kensa Luna Blaster]
When we muck around with weapon choices, one inkling from each team is designated to pick the weapon and the others copy that choice. Neither team knows what the other team is picking, so to end up batting over the Rainmaker in Inkblot Art Academy with everyone using the Luna Blaster (except for Speed Racer, who has resolutely ignored Sheldon's attempts to sell them one, and mostly the Kensa variety, is quite the coincidence. It should also make for a fun battle!
I understand where Speed Racer is coming from, what with the Luna Blaster being the original annoying blaster in the first Splatoon, which makes it kinda surprising that they have the Clash Blaster, easily taking the mantle of most annoying blaster from the Luna Blaster in Sploon2. Much like me, they enjoyed the Clash Blaster initially, but then got some self-respect. I have to say, I don't think the Clash Blaster is a bad weapon, or deserves to be disliked, but I do find it a bit too easy to rack up the splats sometimes. Anyway, on to the battle.
It's good that I've played the Kensa Sloshing Machine before, because Fizzy Bombs are not easy to understand on a first attempt. Mind you, I don't think I've battled with the Luna Blaster out of Mr Grizz forcing it on me during a Salmon Run shift, but it's just a shorter-range Grim Range Blaster, I suppose, and I do like getting too close to other inklings. I try not to get in to too much trouble initially, just trying to get a feel for things, which makes it hilarious that my grab for the Rainmaker gets me splatted immediately.
I return to just about dodge a Rainmaker blast, then stop the Rainmaker itself, before helping apply some forward pressure. We get slightly closer to the purple podium than the purple team got to ours, but again my grab for the Rainmaker results in a quick splatting. My squidmates recover the Rainmaker, though, and dash forwards nicely to get a strong lead, as I return to mop up the Clash Blaster at the back of the action. My attempt to steal the Rainmaker along a Fizzy Bomb path doesn't work, and the purple team clear their lines.
My squidmates are dealing with the Rainmaker, so I press forwards and try to keep some pressure on the purple podium. I think it works, letting the Rainmaker move forwards a bit, but I am splatted a bit too easily to have caused much disruption. The tussle for the Rainmaker gets inky, and once again I find myself unable to anticipate the direction of an Ink Storm. I still just about get out of it, which is handy, and I hide out for a bit, just waiting to see what happens next. A squidmate grabs the Rainmaker, so we're moving forwards!
I head right around the back this time, splatting Speed Racer, but losing track of another inkling after the Rainmaker is dropped. I make another circuit, successfully applying some pressure this time, the choice of all short-range weapons not really benefitting either side too much. But with inky threats coming from two sides, plus some rain, the purple team struggle to keep afloat. Victory looks assured, but a spot of purple ink on the podium stops the straightforward dunk, and I have to quickly move away from a Splat Bomb.
Thankfully, the other side of the podium is inked from the splats of two purple inklings, giving the Rainmaker a clean squidding up to the top for the battle-winning dunk. Woomy!
