[Splatoon 3] Live Stream Splatfest What is this called? Kaiten-Yaki vs. Oban-Yaki vs. Imagawa-Yaki
Welcome to my channel! In this live stream, I'll be bringing you the exciting Splatfest event exclusive to the Japan region in Splatoon 3, featuring Kaiten-Yaki vs. Oban-Yaki vs. Imagawa-Yaki!
This is the third Splatfest of Drizzle Season 2023 and was announced on social networks on November 8, 2023. At the same time, the Americas/Oceania and Europe regions are hosting their exclusive Handshake vs. Fist Bump vs. Hug Splatfest.
What makes this Splatfest unique in Splatoon 3 is that it differs by region. Players who have selected the Japan region can participate in this Splatfest, while players from the Americas/Oceania, Europe, or Hong Kong/South Korea regions will take part in the Handshake vs. Fist Bump vs. Hug Splatfest as a combined group.
The Splatfest question revolves around the name of a popular dessert known as imagawayaki. It's a delectable treat made from dough filled with sweet red bean paste and cooked in a special enclosed pan. Interestingly, imagawayaki is known by various names, with the Japanese Wikipedia article listing over 50 different regional or brand-related names for the dish.
The teams in this Splatfest represent the three most common names for the dish in Japanese:
Kaiten-Yaki (lit. "spun fried (dish)"), commonly found in the Kyūshū region.
Ōban-Yaki (lit. "large size fried (dish)"), popular in the Kansai and Touhoku regions. "Ōban" also refers to an Edo-period Japanese coin, which the dish resembles in shape.
Imagawa-Yaki (lit. "Imagawa-style fried (dish)"), widespread in most regions of Japan. This name is derived from the historical Imagawa Bridge in Kanda, where the dish was first sold in the 18th century.
