Unlocking Sgt. Byrd by beating his level allows you to use him in any level with a sub-area that's housed by his birdcage-like hut. This also includes places you originally couldn't access before, such as Molten Crater.

In that level's Sgt. Byrd area, you have to help a Tiki called Shale bring his friends over to where he is for a Tiki Party. To do this, you have to fly over their tiki heads and then land them on their bodies. Do this to all of them and you'll be rewarded with a Dragon Egg.

You can also get Molten Crater's second Skill Point by literally doing this task. That is to say by taking the tiki heads themselves straight to Shale's spot. The heads will all dance and you'll get a 1-UP butterfly.
