SSGL's S/CG topic 3, Halo 6 to have splitscreen. But, will it affect reviews? (Wii Black Ops)
Hello YouTube! It's the weekend again, and on this occasion, am coming in with a commentary vid related to splitscreen returning to the Halo series that I think is a bit different.
Before I continue: you can visit the GameFaqs.com link at the end of this description, or else, click on the vid's Poll Card if you wish to vote on whether the news of splitscreen returning to the Halo series was great, so-so or bad news.
Now, the reason why things here are a bit different is that aside from mentioning that there's happiness returning amongst fans of the series due to the news, I wanted to go a bit dipper into something that I have been noticing for sometime now.
This would relate to the #4 of the top 10 situations I feel splitscreen/couch gamers like myself have to deal with: representation. In this case, in video game reviews by gaming websites.

I decided that I needed to eventually make a vid like this after I ran into Polygon's website review of Halo 5: Guardians, shortly after said game came out. There's a pic there showing the splitscreen of another Halo game. Attached to that, it says that the 'removal of splitscreen did not affected our score' and described it's users as a 'vocal minority.'
This made me scratch my head. As far as reviews goes, I think they shouldn't be about analyzing or trying to determine who or what amount of people uses which feature, when, where and how often... much less, refer to a segment of the gaming public as a 'vocal minority.'
I suppose that kind of analysis is OK for some blog discussion elsewhere. But then, hearing from Polygon both before AND after, saying how it was a "crime" for the campaign not to have splitscreen was amusing. Then, I guess they should have subtracted points when they graded the game? And... who was and later on acted like the "vocal minority"?Observe:

Oh well. At least their review did mentioned splitscreen (granted, not in the way it should have been) giving some awareness to the consumer base, unlike IGN and GameSpot, who flat-out ignored it... amid the drama that was hitting those who where finding out about the lack of splitscreen... a good number of them after actually buying the game!
Thus, this vid focuses on IGN, GameSpot and Polygon's reviews of both Halo 5: Guardians and... Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Why the latter? Because those two seemingly keep bumping into each other, don't they? And because one of them fully kept the splitscreen while the other fully lost it. Yet the three featured website reviews of them both, just failed to mention the feature, minus that Polygon remark. Observe:

I think the feature of splitscreen should be mentioned in reviews and treated in the same manner as the other elements of the game. And it's as simple as that. But, why do you think it isn't there?
