Before you blindly say that this is unfounded criticism, please take a look yourself. My final opinion is that it isn't unplayable. It's simply disappointing.
Coming from a longtime player, the enhanced editions do not offer much at all compared to the originals, and there were a few bugs ran into whilst recording.
Agreeing to a EULA was also interesting.
Is it better, worse, or on par with Legends of the Zone?
There are lots of concerns about these games. Is AI involved since it was outsourced? Since more and more visual artifacts are appearing, people are leaning to "yes".
For those who bought a game to experience Chornobyl, expect revisionism. Such examples include: removing the letters from the ChAES sign, removing posters from 100 Rads, removing the lion and other figures from Call of Prypiat. I'm sure as players continue to go through this game with a fine-tooth comb, other details will soon emerge.
For a lover of history, this is truly saddening. I love history, and I love the atmosphere it gives to these games. Removing anything at all is removing the core essence of them. If I was never fascinated by the ghost city of Prypiat, I would've never picked up these games. What's next? Removing the "White House" or Hotel Polissya, or the power plant itself, simply because of when they were built? When does it stop becoming necessary and become superfluous?
I'm sure just like any other medium, this will become a battlefield of ideas and sides. Because of the climate, almost any criticism can and will be considered structured opposition. I'd ask you to restrain yourselves and act in a controlled manner, but nobody reads this shit anyway...
Maybe with time, these games can be turned around.
For a basic player? Check it out, compare it to the original trilogy.
