Star Ocean The Divine Force NEW JRPG Announcement Gameplay and Information 2022
Star Ocean the Divine Force new JRPG announcement is here from Tri-Ace and Square-Enix and we are going to look at the gameplay and all the information for this upcoming JRPG for PS4 PS5 Xbox Series S and X Xbox One and PC for 2022 !! Enjoy!
Square-Enix has shown off some gameplay and scenes from their upcoming new Star Ocean JRPG known as Star Ocean the Divine Force. It's been awhile since we had a new Star Ocean game and although the last one was a little meh, this one looks to be returning to what made the Star Ocean series so captivating back in Star Ocean 2 The Second Story for example : Exploring multiple worlds, mixed with technology of a space faring society clashing with underdeveloped planets and being seen as gods because of the extreme differences in technology levels. Even from this trailer it looks to show off several worlds, and it looks crisp and beautiful and it was announced for basically everything: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X and set to release sometime in 2022.
So this Start Ocean will take place in the year 583SD after the events of Integrity and Faithlessness which I would like to mention I thought was a subpar entry and the worst in the series. Two of the main characters are Raymond and Laeticia, Raymond being captain of a spacefaring vessel which belongs to Lawrence Logistics in which he is member of that company's family, and so he is not part of the intergalactic governments as we have become accustomed to in the Star Ocean series before. They are apparently attacked and they are forced to escape onto a remote planet. Sounds like a beautiful start to an awesome Star Ocean story. Now we can only hope that the characters within the story are captivating as that is what truly drives a good JRPG story, after all, if we aren't interested in the people we are playing as, it makes it quite difficult to enjoy much beyond that when we are talking about an RPG.
As many of you know, I am more of a fan of the old school turn-based battle systems, Star Ocean as to be expected with this series, is an action combat system, but I can live with that and have enjoyed all the series so far with the only exception being Integrity and Faithlessness but I didn't absolutely hate it, I just didn't think it held up to all the other previous entries in quality and storytelling.
Now the game is being developed by Tri-Ace and published by Square-Enix and I still have a lot of faith in Tri-Ace and I really hope they pull this one off to be a memorable experience. One piece of information we got that makes me excited is that you can play from either of the protagonists perspectives, and that just makes me all jittery and excited inside. They promise different story elements from each and that it will impact how the story unveils itself.
There is enough in the trailer to get an idea that the combat will be familiar to the other Star Ocean entries, and I'm totally okay with that, I always enjoyed Star Ocean's combat. You can also see a lot of beautiful environments and that clash of technology and wilderness, which I think is what Star Ocean should be all about. There will be airship travel across the world or worlds it appears as well.
WIth that in mind and the imagery given to us from the trailer it does appear it's going to take some sort of open world approach instead of the more linear design most JPRGs have been following for awhile now, and I really hope so. We can see a more free combat style as well, taking advantage of the environment, and if done even half way decent this could lead to some exciting gameplay elements.
For people who loved Star Trek, Star Ocean is just an anime version of that in my opinion and if you are not sickened by the weeb, I highly advice absolutely any entry in the series except for the latest one that I am already sick of mentioning. Not long ago Star Ocean First Departure R was released which was a beautiful old school remake of the very first Star Ocean that came out on Super Nintendo, for the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch and I highly recommend it. I do believe the second one needs the same treatment, but I digress.
Star Ocean is a beloved series and I'm excited to see it continue it's legacy with hopefully a high quality new entry in Star Ocean The Devine Force.
