Star Wars Battlefront I & II - Fighter Squadron Vs Starfighter Assault (Rebels)
4A face off between Star Wars Battlefront I & II (Beta) - The first game's Fighter Squadron versus the second's Starfighter Assault.
I've combined two separate runs of Starfighter Assault here, as owing to the PS4's capture setting limit of 15 minutes, the start of the actual run I'd intended to use for the whole thing was cut off. That run starts at the point where the first set of shield generators need to be taken out, which is the point where I've built up enough points to pilot the Millennium Falcon. I segue between the two different runs at that point (in case you were wondering why my points suddenly jumped up enough to get a hero run). I was a bit pissed off that the start of the first game got cut off, as it was a better run than the one I subsequently ended up using to start the video off with (although the one I ended up using for the first part of the video wasn't terrible by any means, I just did a lot better in the footage that was lost, a 5 kill streak and no deaths up to the point the shield generators needed taking out, which is why by that point in the game, where the second run starts, I'd already built up enough points to use the Falcon). This was my first ever time using the Millennium Falcon and I was trying to figure out it's abilities on the fly. It probably would've been sensible to look at what it could do before just jumping straight in with it.... I mange to blow myself up quite a few times in the final part of the game where you're taking out the Star Destroyer clamps. Despite that though, I still mange to finish with the second highest score out of all the Rebels and third highest overall.
Likewise, I use two different runs for the Battlefront I footage. The first was from a game of Fighter Squadron that I jumped into around the 6 minute mark. I managed to not die for the entire run and raked up what I felt was a half decent amount of kills for the very short amount of time I actually got to play before the match finished. The second lot of footage was from the third phase in a game of Battle Station, where I managed to blow myself up quite a lot due to careless flying. The reason I've included it though is that at the end it's the closest I've ever got to actually blowing up the Death Star after getting selected for the trench run, although another player beats me to it right at the end...
I love Fighter Squadron in BF1 and the first few times I played it It absolutely blew me away with how nice it looked (I remember being particularly impressed at the start of my first time on Sorosuub flying through the clouds and as you break through them all the TIE fighters are suddenly on you). So with the benchmark already high, I'm pleased to say that BF2 absolutely smashes it out of the park visually and manages to further improve on BF1's graphics. The player ships look huge and very nicely detailed and the environment in the one stage in the BF2 Beta looks the absolute tits. Gameplay-wise it's similar but quite different at the same time and I must admit I do miss the soft lock. I think the missile targeting is improved in BF2 though, although I haven't fully sussed out how to shake off a missile if some else has locked on to me.
