Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) - Heroes - PS2 Public Beta (Part 6)
Here are all of the heroes contained within the files of the PS2 Public Beta. It seems the developers already made the decision to scrap the Royal Guard by this time. The Royal Guard's ODF file was present in the Xbox demo, which was an even earlier version of the game, but was removed from this beta.
One thing to note. Multiple maps would not load in the PS2 beta so I had to transfer heroes to other maps in order to play as them. That's why you see Aayla on Kamino or Chewie on Utapau. The hero selections for each map are the same as they are in the final version.
Several heroes received changes, others were hardly changed at all.
General Differences:
- Detpacks look like time bombs.
- No back attacks for saber heroes.
- Lightsaber sprint animation is different.
- Jedi jumps thrust you forward like the Dark Trooper's jump pack.
- Heroes were unable to enter vehicles.
Luke Skywalker:
- Still has the old model from the original Battlefront.
- Luke can continue moving after his third attack instead of temporarily pausing in place. This allows him to "slide" around a bit.
- Pilot Luke does not exist in this beta. They used the ROTJ Luke on Hoth.
Han Solo:
- Different model.
Princess Leia:
- No notable differences.
Chewbacca:
- Different model.
- A grenade launcher instead of the guided rockets.
- Chewbacca's damage buff is called "Area Damage Over Time". I didn't use it in the video but from looking at the files, it functions exactly the same as it does in the final version. Perhaps the name is a hint to its original function however.
Stormtrooper Han:
- Different face from the final version. This is the same face from the regular Han model seen in this beta.
- Instead of detpacks, he had a second fusion cutter. Probably just a mistake.
Stormtrooper Luke:
- Different face, does not match the final release nor the SWBF1 model.
- Has the same loadout as the regular Rebel Soldiers.
Ben Kenobi:
- No actual model was made for him.
- Complete voice overs, same lines as prequel Obi-Wan.
- Jedi Mind Trick is a stealth weapon. However, it's not that effective because it seems the AI can still see you.
Obi Wan Kenobi:
- No notable differences.
Mace Windu:
- He has a different jump attack, which was later repurposed for Ki-Adi-Mundi once they decided to give Mace the ground smash ability.
Yoda:
- No notable differences.
Aayla Secura:
- She has a purple Lightsaber instead of a green one. Interestingly, she does have the purple Lightsaber in the PSP version of the game.
- Her name is misspelled "Aalya Secura".
Ki-Adi-Mundi:
- He's a literal clone of Luke at this point, aside from having Force Pull instead of Force Push.
- Still doesn't talk.
Darth Vader:
- His animations are similar to the PSP version, however, he has a goofy walking animation.
- Different spring attack.
- Different jump attack.
- Regular attack animations seem to be slightly different. Less aggressive, I guess you could say.
- Different sprinting animations.
Palpatine:
- He's a buggy mess.
- Only half his body shows up in the spawn screen.
- His Lightsaber is malfunctional and only works while sprinting.
- Lightning effects look different.
- Lightning functions slightly differently. More damage but more energy loss.
Boba Fett:
- No notable differences.
Anakin Skywalker:
- No notable differences.
Count Dooku:
- He's basically just Darth Vader from the PSP version but with Force Lightning and a different sprinting animation.
- Does not have the goofy walking animations that Vader has in this beta.
- Lightning has the same differences as Palpatine's.
- I believe his sprint animation was completely removed from SWBF2, however, it was later used for Darth Vader in the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.
General Grievous:
- No rage buff.
Jango Fett:
- No notable differences.
Darth Maul:
- I couldn't get his secret fourth attack to work so presumably it hasn't been implemented yet.
Let me know if you find any other differences!
