A playthrough of The Software Toolworks' 1993 licensed-based chess game for the Sega CD, Star Wars Chess.

Played a single game against the CPU on the advanced difficulty level.

The name is pretty self-explanatory for this one, really. It's chess, but it uses Star Wars pieces. It does a pretty nice job of keeping the Star Wars feel throughout, with the classic music playing regularly and the nicely animated cinematics that highlight capturing your opponent's pieces. If you aren't sure why a chess game has an MA-13 rating, you might be surprised at how surprisingly violent some of them are!

The character pieces themselves look good, but sometimes obscure from view the exact positioning of other pieces behind them. Thankfully, though, someone foresaw how this could be an issue, and so you have a super-convenient top-down of a traditional board unadorned with all of the window dressing (and, if you don't care for the FMV, you can play the game exclusively from this view).

I was also surprised at how this wasn't a massive comedown from the PC version. It's much lower in resolution, but the newly added intro and the cutaway animations (as opposed to the in-place on-the-board animations in the PC game) do a great job of accommodating the console format.

Finally - the intro music is not the original music in the game. Since the first couple of cinematics use recordings of the original film music, the copyright scan didn't find it agreeable. So, I took the midi music from Monopoly Star Wars, recorded it in FM, added a load of chorus and reverb to it, and voila. Just wanted to point that out, even though I'm sure many people will aggressively point it out to me (like I somehow hadn't realized that I'd put effort into replacing the music) without ever bothering reading this description.
