A playthrough of Hasbro's 1997 themed board game adaptation for PCs running Windows 95, Monopoly Star Wars CD-ROM Edition.

I played through a single game as Boba Fett against the AI controlled Princess Leia and R2D2, both set to the medium difficulty level.

All in-game graphics settings are maxed out, and the game is being run in Windows 10 with compatibility settings for Win95. ClearType has been disabled so that the in-game text appears correctly.

Monopoly has appeared on nearly all platforms from the 80s onward, but rarely do the license-based themed versions appear in electronic forms. Thankfully, Artech shows some real skill and love in bringing Monopoly Star Wars to the PC, nailing the presentation with a lot of cool flourishes that just wouldn't be possible with any other format. It looks and sound amazing for a game released in 1997.

The whole thing is narrated by Anthony Daniels, better known as the voice of C3PO, and each of the player pieces are animated CG clips that run, jump, and whatever else between spaces on the fantastically detailed 3D game board. Every space has multiple video clips taken from the original trilogy to frame the action (and they're of usually surprisingly high quality), and all of the sound effects are pretty authentic (Even if the players themselves lack any voices besides some weirdly off-sounding grunts). The background music is also pretty good, but it is done with midi files - the Sound Blaster 16 music here is why it sounds like a Sega Genesis game, but any wavetable playback sounds pretty close to the original songs. I just went with the FM music because this is how it sounded back when I used to play the game in the 90s.

While eventually the game loses a bit of its appeal after a few plays once the video clips start repeating (mainly because the Star Wars flourishes do slow the pace of the game a fair amount), it really makes a pretty magical experience the first couple times. It's a fantastically well done tribute to the sci-fi epic, and any fans of Monopoly or the films would be remiss to not check it out!
