Pit-Fighter (Game Boy) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of THQ's fighting game for the Nintendo Game Boy, Pit-Fighter.
Played through as Ty.
Pit-Fighter was never a particularly great game, even if it could be a lot of fun in short bursts. But, when the 16-bit Genesis and SNES systems could barely manage something resembling the popular arcade game, what hope did the Game Boy ever have of reproducing anything?
As it turns out, quite a bit. While it obviously lacks the detail of the other home ports, thanks to hard limit of four shades of green on-screen at once, the digitized sprites carry over quite well, and they animate about as well (or not well) as the console port versions did. The moves are all here and the controls are reasonable (for Pit-Fighter at least), and the game feels far more fluid than they did in the Mortal Kombat Game Boy port. There's some surprising use of digitized samples (even more surprising - they're crystal clear!), that help distract from the insanely repetitive music that never changes.
So, while this game will never be GOTY material, for what the source was, this is a surprisingly respectable, faithful adaptation. It really doesn't have any business being on a machine like the Game Boy, but for what it is, it's quite good.
