The EE for Starbound mod adds an alchemy & transmutation system that uses EMC (Energy-Mass Currency) as a way of converting one item to another and back again.

This is based on the Minecraft EE (Equivalent Exchange) mods, also used in the newer Project E mod as seen in the Sky Odyssey pack and others.

In Starbound, the EMC system is implemented through a series of specialised tables - mining, hunting and food, with three tiers of each. EMC can be universal (earned by burning any item) or specialised (earned by researching particular items), and you can then pull items out of the system once you've researched enough of that item in the EE for Starbound mod.
