The talk will outline the history of the Handheld Augmented Reality (AR) project at Graz University of Technology to point out how mobile-phone AR evolved and which further developments are to be expected. We then go into details on our two core technologies: our mobile phone computer vision library (StbTracker) and our AR framework for mobile phones (StbES). We present latest, unpublished results, such as the first real-time 6DOF map tracker for mobile phones. The second part of the talk sums up commercial experiences with mobile-phone AR. Presenting real projects deployed in the last 12 months, we give details on what works in practice and what failed; what customers want and what turned out to be of no use for them. This evaluation includes technical, as well as deployment and usability issues. The talk finishes with an outlook on future research topics.
