Despite being an older title with its feet firmly planted in the 360/PS3 era, GTA V still feels like a game that's buckling under the weight of its own considerable technical ambitions. As such, it's a good game to check out on the new Steam Deck to see what the hardware is really capable of.

Not too surprisingly, the Steam Deck handles GTA V very well on the default Low settings, but there's plenty of room to bump some of the details up without losing too much of the frame rate. I thought the Rockstar Launcher's Steam integration might cause some trouble, but that part of the experience has been surprisingly hassle-free - both in GTA and other Rockstar titles such as RDR2 and Max Payne 3.

As for the actual game, I played through GTA V's campaign only once (the original last-lastgen version), left much of the side content unfinished and barely touched the online mode. For that reason, I think there's a ton of open world treasures left for me to discover...if I can somehow get past Rockstar's typically divisive design decisions and the general misantrophy of the studio's writing, that is.
