Today I take a look at why Steam (made by Valve, creators of Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Portal, Portal 2, and Half Life: Alyx) is better than other launchers that are considered "competition". These other launchers are Epic Games (the launcher you need to run Fortnite, and also where you can go to access the Unreal Engine), Origin (A launcher made by EA games, a publisher known as the "villain" of the gaming community, even though the studios under their wings, like Respawn Entertainment, have created games like Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends), Uplay, which is now rebranded to Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net (The launcher used to play Call of Duty Warzone, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft) and finally the Rockstar Games Launcher (known for making critically acclaimed games like GTA 5, sometimes spelled GTA V, GTA San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Bully). Sadly the Minecraft 1.16 launcher didn't make it into the video, as I didn't deem it worth talking about. I'm honestly hoping my next video is about something like Minecraft, or maybe even Among Us, or I could dive into the lore behind the Dream SMP, and take closer looks at the personas created by Dream, Ranboo, TommyInnit, Sapnap, GeorgeNotFound, and BadBoyHalo.

It’s the holiday season, a time to spend huddled around your family, a time for giving, and a time for getting, and Valve knows this like no other. See all throughout the year Steam has sales, but the winter sale is one of the best times of year to capitalize on getting games for cheap, and isn’t that honestly what everyone wants. And while Valve gives out sales across the entire platform, what they would like to get in return is that brand new $20 steam gift card that you just got for christmas, and honestly, not spending it is really hard. These sales are honestly so tempting, you’ll see little green bars thrown at you all throughout the platform, 60, 70, 80, SOMETIMES 90% off. They’re literally chucking these sales at you and just begging you to buy something.

To back up a bit, admittedly the Steam Winter sale isn’t everything. There’s other sales that take place all throughout the year, we got the Lunar New Year sale, Golden Week, Spring, Summer, Halloween, Black Friday, and obviously the Winter sale which is what I talked about first. Outside of these sales there’s sometimes quick flash sales across the entire site, and daily specials that sometimes feature massive sales on popular games. I mean sometimes these sales are so common that I legitimately get scared buying a game on steam when there aren’t sales going on because I swear to god there’s some dude watching my account, stalking my shit, waiting for the exact moment I spend my money so that he can call up gaben. “Sir, he purchased a game for a full $60 dollars, what should we do” and Gaben’s just like, “put it on sale, 95% off” and then I wake up the next day, see the price, and cry realizing i’m already past the refund time on steam to take advantage of the sale.

I’ll be completely honest, while the sales are definitely plentiful, most of the time they’re not exactly, popular sales. Not that some of these games aren’t bad, Flatout 3 is definitely bad,
There’s definitely the usual games or bundles that I get notified about but I swear to god I’ll never play some of these. Like yes Valve of course I’m going to spend $514.91 on the Call of Duty Franchise collection, obviously can’t wait to blow all of my money on this shit AND ARE THESE DLC MAPS NOT EVEN ON SALE. BRO ACTIVISION WHO IS FORCING YOU TO HOLD THESE BLACK OPS 2 ZOMBIE MAPS HOSTAGE. THIS SHIT CAME OUT IN 2014 YOU’VE GOTTA LET IT GO.

Obviously though there are amazing games that go on sale. If you need some recommendations I’d definitely check out Ultrakill at 25% off, It’s an amazing boomer shooter FPS that’s in Early Access right now. Monster Hunter World is a game I’ve been playing on and off for awhile, it’s 34% off right now and it’s an amazing purchase if bullying massive dragons sounds like fun (it is btw). Prey, the 2017 release, was free on the epic games store on Christmas day, but if you missed out it’s 75% off at $7.49. I saw a friend screenshare the game recently and it looks crazy I can’t wait to play it. Finally, ignore my bias but MCC is 50% off on Steam, and paying 20 dollars for six of the best games ever made. If you regret it, I’ll cry.
