Steins;Gate (Pt 5): While the Mystery Deepens, Neo Obtains the IBN 5100
[BLIND LIVESTREAM]
So, SOMEHOW, Neo and his buddies seemingly have managed to make a prototype time machine with a microwave, duck tape and glue, which seems to explain the interesting effects that seem to happen to the banana fingers each time they run experiments with the "Phone Wave (name subject to change)". Neo recalls seeing the same lights on the Phone Wave (name subject to change) device when he tried sending a text message after Kurisu's initial murder, which clues him in that time machine shenanigans likely involving either HIS OWN device, or a device similar to what he has made, is already being used to alter the timelines, and that he is indeed in a different world than the one he originally started out in.
But despite the evidence he now has that lends credence to this theory, this raises several questions which only deepen the mystery behind what is currently happening all around him. Why did the first time shift he witness occur RIGHT AFTER he sent that text message? Who is operating whichever time machine that was used to alter the timeline he was in -- or rather, why, since its likely Neo already suspects who may be responsible just via the visual clue he has to work with? But perhaps most importantly, what future event will act as the catalyst that will ultimately set this, and possibly MORE timeshifts, into motion?
Thinking about all these questions for a minute, Neo feels the opening of the game pretty much already answers all but the first of these questions, and they all tie back to Rintaro, and by extension Neo himself... so perhaps the REAL questions Neo thinks need to be asked at this stage are as follows: How exactly does Kurisu herself fit into everything, and who exactly wants her dead?
Throughout this episode, while Neo doesn't feel like he gets any closer to answering these important questions, he DOES manage to get his hands on the IBN 5100, although the exact manner in which he acquires it adds even FURTHER mysteries to the pile. But hey, at least now he'll be able to probably start making some real progress discerning the secrets of SERN's research using the computer's hidden decryption protocol...
