Stellar Blade: An Incredible Game with an Identity Issue (Review)
19Stellar Blade is an amalgamation of many different influences, and it evidently wears them on its sleeve. It is the first Triple A outing for developer Shift Up, and for the most part is successful, delivering a strong sense of souls-like combat, that is neatly blended with a more hack-n-slash style of melee combat akin to something like Final Fantasy 16.
Where the combat and exploration can feel fun for the average 20 hour runtime, the games story feels like it struggles to carve out its own identity and lives in the shadow of the heavy inspirations of Nier Automata. But the future for this series is a bright one, and one that I and fully onboard for.
