Notes in OS X can hold files, images, and much more. These files and images can then be accessed directly from Notes app with a double-click, as if they were anywhere else in the Mac filesystem.
Best of all, these Notes with files attached still sync seamlessly to iCloud, and will open on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
