Strato-Scruffy 2009 - Development Log #19 (Final Fight Pt. 2)
I proudly present the final boss. As of now, Strato-Scruffy can be played and completed from start to finish, and is only missing a proper level select screen (with levels unlocking) and the ending. This is actually a pretty cool gauntlet! I've gone over Dino's fight in the previous video so I'll elaborate on Sticky's fight:
Phase 1: This boss is pretty much unchanged from 2009, conceptually anyway. The teleporting and rainbow beams were always meant to be a part of the fight, but I felt like he needed some more attacks, so I came up with the bomb spam and ring of fire. The ring of fire had to be nerfed a LOT.
Phase 2: If you're laughing at the absurdity of a boss called "Armageddon Sticky", yeah, I am too. It's so uncool it loops around and becomes slightly cool again. As for the fight, I had nothing really planned for it back in the other than the sprites already being done (except the hands, had to sprite those) and the idea of Gambi helping you mid-fight. While he has the same attacks as in the first phase, I felt this was a way to expand on the first phase in a more difficult way. I kill him pretty quickly here, but this fight is a lot harder than it looks if you don't know where to position yourself.
Side note, while it might be weird seeing references to modern Super Freaks in the cutscenes, I TOTALLY would've done that back in the day if I knew the trajectory the series would take. Seriously, there's nothing trippier than imitating your past self.
Anyways, Strato should be finished and released within a matter of days now. That's even trippier!
