For kaiju destruction simulators, a good example is 1998's Dreamcast launch title Godzilla Generations. Its slow pace and awkward controls gave it a bad rap, but it's one of the few games that let you play as the Tristar Godzilla from the 1998 American film, as well as Godzilla's child Minilla. So it has that going for it. In this stream I play through the campaign as Tristar Goji, enjoying her charging dash attack, then briefly show some Minilla gameplay.

Since that doesn't take long, I then played through the sequel, Godzilla Generations: Maximum Impact. It reuses the engine but totally revamps the gameplay into an autoscrolling rail shooter, with Panzer Dragoon-style lockon for Godzilla's atomic breath. The boss fights against other monsters in semi-free-roaming arenas are a nice addition compared to the first game, although they're pretty difficult at times. It's a weird game but we have some fun with it, and there's lots of chat along the way about the various phases of Toho's film franchises and spin-off media.

Finally, I take a quick look at a game that did the monster destruction genre on the Commodore 64, 1986's The Movie Monster Game. This one has the Godzilla licence but also has other selectable monsters that are very much knockoffs. I play a level as Godzilla and as Sphectra, a bootleg Mothra.
