This time I dug into the Umihara Kawase fan forums and found a couple more romhacks, with all-new levels in the SNES game engine. Then I show off a few different versions of Shun and a slightly Kawase-flavoured DS puzzle game. Games played:

-Uku Umihara Kawase, a romhack of the SNES game posted in 2016 by Canvas. This has 24 new levels pitched "harder than the average Umihara Kawase map", but they're forgiving enough that I was able to do most of them with savestates, which is more than I can say for the original game itself! I moved on to the next game at Field 17 but came back and made more progress, only being stymied by what is perhaps the final overhang challenge in the whole hack on Field 24, but I'm proud I was able to do that much.

-Umihara Kawase Undertow, another SNES romhack made by texh/sun tourist. The original release has 8 new stages but I only saw part of one, due to its extremely high level of difficulty. Very demanding stuff for super players only. In 2022 they posted what they had done of a planned remaster, a single level that also turned out too hard for me to get past the first obstacle! I'm disappointed I don't have the skills to show off more of this hack.

-After this I played around with the Umihara Kawase Shun port to PSP, although the audio was a bit crackly. I wanted to show how this version made some interesting changes but wasn't able to recreate the physics engine perfectly. Then I played a bit of the DS port, but something to do with my emulator/PC setup caused it to run poorly. Finally I played some of the PSX original for a proper comparison.

-Coropata, a 2009 DS puzzle game. It's similar to the classic PC game series The Incredible Machine where you use everyday objects to create Rube Goldberg style setups, but with a cute anime style and slight Umihara Kawase vibes. It also centres around managing the state of the young girl Himawari as she delivers radishes to friends and neighbours. I played just half a dozen puzzles but had a good time.
