I check out the licensed SNES game loosely based on the 1939 movie, as well as the unlicensed NES bootleg game loosely based on the SNES game. As it turns out, the bootleg is more fun!

Manley & Associates' 1993 SNES game is a slow-paced and punishing exploration platformer. It has an interesting character-switching system and collection mechanic where the bricks you find make a bridge to the next world. Unfortunately it's both dull and harsh to play. I made it to the end of the third world.

In 1996 Waixing released a Wizard of Oz game for Famicom/Famiclone systems, also known as God Gives Directions or Fairy Land. It takes some vague cues from the SNES game but is more of an action platformer, where each character has stats that get boosted by enemy drops. Also, Dorothy has a skateboard (briefly)! A lot of the assets are stolen so it's a fun mishmash; I especially liked the Lion King sprites being used directly for the Cowardly Lion, although I used Dorothy most of the time because of the efficacy of her spread-shot throwing knife attack(!). I finished the game on Easy, then stuck around fascinated by the title screen demo which shows every stage including the epilogue and credits!
