A lot of people think Jotaro is just the edgy bastard "Yare Yare Daze" guy, but it's a little bit more complicated then that. Think about this for a second, Jotaro is 17 years old in Part 3. Of course he'd try his best to look cool and badass without showing his emotions. The problem is, he succeeds in this. Because he succeeds at trying to be the "edgy loner bastard who doesn't show his emotions", people find him boring. But just try to remember that Jotaro is a teenager here. Seriously, watch any scene where Jotaro says a one-liner with this information, it changes a lot. He tries to keep a cool demeanor to not show his emotions, like every edgy teen ever.

There are some cracks, however, where he puts down that mirage of badassery. And it's these moments where we see the true Jotaro, a person who cherishes the few friends he has.

And another thing. People seem to think he actually hates his mom (which is really easy to see, considering... y'know *distant YAKAMASHI!*). But in all actuality, he loves his mom and was willing to put in life on the line to save her. Hell, before he and the gang left for Egypt, Holly said she was going to make something for dinner right before Jotaro told her to stay in bed. Though he does say it rather rudely, you can tell he cares about her.

Part 4 Jotaro is obviously better character wise, but we shouldn't be quick to dismiss Jotaro's character in his own part.
