SummerSlam 2025 Night 2 | Surprise Return & Title Change | Shock & Blah?
Tonight was night 2 of the first-ever 2-night WWE Summerslam, and if this is any indication, I'd say going back to one night would be best. Whereas Night 1 had some shock title changes and surprising results, Night 2 played it safe, only had 1 title change, and again, I will say the crowd felt dead. Let's take a look at the second night of Summerslam 2025, which featured a surprise return, a good title change, but overall, instead of shock and awe was it more of shock and blah?

This second night was a major dud for me, it was just bad. I liked the Io/Rhea/Naomi match the first 4 times I saw it before this, it just seems like there's nothing new happening here. It was interesting to see Naomi pin Rhea, but having just won the title recently Naomi wasn't losing it any time soon.
The 6-pack Challenge for the Men's Tag Team belts was just a crash fest and I have serious concerns on whether or not Candace Lerae was ok after taking that fall on to the ladder. I think there has been too much BS interference in recent months during no DQ matches, and this match jumped the shark.
The Women's Intercontinental Championship Match was easily the worst of the weekend for 1 reason: Lyra's hands slipped out of the zip ties! Like I get the suspension of disbelief in wrestling, I watched Kane and the Undertaker for years! But when her hands slipped out, instead of Becky beating her down and redoing the restraint, Lyra just slid her hand back in. Even the commentary team noticed!
Dominic vs AJ Styles was fine for what it was, but it was a match that just didn't feel like it had a great build. I think that can be said for all these matches except for the main event. I think AJ and Dom could have had a great match anywhere, this just wasn't quite it.
The main event, however, this delivered for me. I loved the Dusty Rhodes quotes to intro Cody, I'd love to know where they were from! You saw Cody dip his toes into heel territory, and I thought we were going to see a double turn. Parts of this match reminded me of Hogan VS Rock, while the finish reminded me of Shawn Michaels VS Ric Flair. I didn't expect Cody to win, I thought Cena would lose the belt in his last match, so that was a surprise.
As was the return of the BEAST, BROCK LESNAR is BACK! It looks like he is going right into a program with Cena, and I thought he was persona non grata, but here he is!
What did you think of night 2 and the overall event? I thought it was a D+ myself as between poor builds, overcomplicated matches, and just bad finishes this was one of the weaker events in recent years for WWE. Share your thoughts in the comments!
