Hey there folks, another 1cc and this time it's a classic konami run n gun that isn't contra. Sunset Riders.

This game is like a fusion of contra and rolling thunder. The colorful graphics, the upbeat western music and the humor just makes this game so much fun to play.

Plot is very straightforward, four of our bounty hunting cowboys Steve, Billy, Bob, and Cormano set out to take down the most dangerous outlaws and claim their reward afterwards.

Gameplay is very solid and the controls are great. You can shoot in 8 directions, slide to avoid bullets, and hop up and down platforms similar to rolling thunder. You can choose between using Billy and Steve's six shooters bob's rifle and cormano's double barrel shotguns (though Bob and Cormano's guns work the same way). The game also has two forms of levels, the usual 2d levels and an auto scrolling one where our bounty hunters ride their stallions.

I much recommend going with Bob or Cormano because they offer more power compared to steve or billy. The revolvers work fine and all but it'll take you a good while to defeat the bosses. Difficulty? The game is pretty fair plus it offers 1up's giving you more of a fighting chance. One of the gripes I have are the bullets being rather small. Your hitbox is quite large as well so just make sure you don't get sandwiched. The bonus rounds are quite fun but challenging since you have to be quick. Last gripe I have is that it's one of those games that loop, I really don't get the whole gimmick of beating the game twice, the credits roll at the end so of course the game is finished.

I also love how each stage shows you the next bounty you have to take down and each boss are pretty unique from their own. The most notable one being Chief Scalpem who was quote on quote "was only following orders".

Music is amazing and the graphics are bright and colorful. It also adds a little bit of humor to with enemies being squashed paper thin and our bounty hunters getting hit with pitchforks. The final boss is pretty satisfying to beat as well, instead of cursing them all he says is "bit of bad luck."

Afterwards our bounty hunters get their rewards and ride off in the sunset. Overall , just a great run n gun shooter with great graphics, solid gameplay and awesome music. It had another game with the same engine as well called Mystic warriors. Not only that a new sunset riders inspired game set in the 70s called Deathwish enforcers is coming out as well!
