Playing the intro and first mission of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Eternal Love Song on PC Engine Super CD-ROM² in a Duo-R.
It's a fun Macross-themed battle strategy game; I actually got it kind of accidentally, thinking it was a shmup. : P Instead, you move Valkyrie and other units--right up to big space fortresses--across a grid map and engage them in unit-on-unit battles vs the giant alien opponents; you also get AI-piloted allies helping you.
The menus are all in Japanese but there aren't too many options, so a little trial and error and you'll soon have it all figured out. The Valkyrie fighters can transform into three different configurations; presumably these have different battle abilities, but I'm not 100% sure what they are, aside from different movement ranges. Also, the terrain affects your defense, with rocky squares generally giving you a pretty good defense bonus.
There are also lots of characters and Japanese dialogue, with key characters speaking up at dramatic moments in battles and so forth.
I stopped the video before getting into big battleship clashes in the second mission, because then you start to get repeated hit-flash effects in the animated battle scenes. 8P I wish those weren't there because the game is pretty fun and I would have liked to keep going!
