Super Double Dragon (Japanese version, SFC) longplay
11Another foreign game from Japan is here, on the Super Famicom. This time, featuring the Double Dragon beat 'em up series, it is Super Double Dragon...or is it? Called "Return of Double Dragon" there and released one week after the US date in 1992, the Japanese version in comparison, even though it's actually unfinished still, is a little bit more polished, having several features not seen in the international version and the last level having additional scenes. Also, while the difficulty is more balanced, the AI is slightly more advanced, as foes can now crouch at times. Knowing my experience with the SNES game, this version is better to go with. Surprisingly, despite being released in Japan, the game is all English.

Differences between US/PAL Super Double Dragon:
- Enemies have less health, even on Hard. However, they can now crouch to dodge combos.
- An options mode is added
- The music is shuffled, such as Mission 1 theme plays at 4, Mission 4 plays at 7, and so on. There are also a couple unique ones, too. Only Missions 2 and 6 are unchanged.
- Knifes and bombs do significantly less damage to you
- You can switch weapons and catch the boomerang
- The hurricane kick is more effective
- An invincibility effect briefly occurs when you respawn after losing a life
- Mission 7 is extended
- The Credits are slightly different
The first two missions, I had technical problems during gameplay thanks to the low-tech Chromebook, so I was forced to turn off the CRT filter to help make it more stable and reduce the risk of crashing/slowdown.
