Super Mario 64 - Hazy Maze Cave - Synth Cover (Korg Opsix, Microfreak, Korg Electribe 2 Sampler)
I guess I've been on a Nintendo kick lately! Here's one from a game you may have heard of, Super Mario 64! I guess this is showing my age, but any 3D Mario games get the "new mario" label from me, and I've never played any of them except for this one!
I thought this one would be fun to do and see what kind of sounds I could get. I am not the biggest fan of the N64 sound chip (or lack thereof, I think?) but the games still have some good music in there! This one obviously is a "remix" and new arrangement of the old underground SMB theme that possibly every single person on on the planet knows.
I went kind of crazy on this one and used a lot of different synths for different parts. The intro I used the Yamaha MX49 and Korg Opsix, the beginning fretless bass and rhythm is the Korg Opsix, the guitars are the MX49, then the next lead part bass is the MX49 with the Microfreak on pads, and then the Microfreak does the "creepy" sounding part towards the end with MX49 on guitars, and finally the Microfreak does the 8-bit sounding pads towards the end with the MX49 doing a dreamy sounding patch thing. I used a lot more reverb than usual on this one, because, well, it's supposed to be in a cave!
I have really been liking the Korg Electribe 2 Sampler for these covers and think it sounds great for the percussion on this one! I really might kick my software drums to the curb, we'll have to see!
Thanks for clicking and for the support! It means a lot and I hope you like my latest cover!
Gear Stuff:
Korg Opsix - bass in beginning, intro
Yamaha MX49 - guitars (clean and OD), fretless bass, plucked bass, pad at end
